Texas Southern University 2022 Homecoming Concert
Homecoming at an HBCU is more than just a football game. It's a week-long event.
Alumni come back to campus to reminisce about their time as students and current students get
to participate in many different events that are unique to HBCU culture. One event that many
students look forward to each year is the homecoming concert. Last Tuesday evening on
October 25 2022, Texas Southern University’s student body gathered at the Durley Stadium for
the annual Homecoming Concert. The concert headliners were Supahbad, Fredo Bang, and
Rob49. There were also a few special guests that made appearances throughout the concert.
The gates opened at 6:30 pm and the stadium filled up quickly with excited students.. One
student, Reginald Fulton states “I'm excited to see my girl Supahbad. I think she's going to bring
the energy”. While waiting for the performances to start, Dj Lefty played a variety of different
songs, ranging from bounce music to R&B. After that, DJ Lefty picked three volunteers from
the crowd to participate in a twerk contest. The concert itself started at 7:30 which was thirty
minutes later than the original start time. Supahbad was the first artist to perform and her set was
filled with energy. The crowd engagement was strong during her performance and she even
pulled girls from the audience to go on stage and dance with her. Supahbad performed a total of
five songs and the crowd knew her songs word for word. After hyping up the crowd, she ended
her set with her viral hit “Bedroom”. Following Supahbads set, rapper ATM Mally made a
special appearance and performed his song “Rich Potnas”. During his performance, his
entourage threw out free T-shirts to the crowd.Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee also made an
appearance at the concert to encourage the crowd to go out and vote. After the congresswoman's
appearance, there was a large gap in between performers and while waiting for the next artist to
come on stage, DJ Lefty played songs to keep the crowd entertained. Finally at 8:30 pm, the
second headliner of the night, Rob 49, came on stage. Rob 49’s set was a little rowdy and at one
point in his performance, his entourage threw money out into the crowd. Rob49 attempted to
follow the trend by inviting girls from the crowd to come on stage, but security denied his
attempts. Rob49’s set ended extremely abruptly and this confused the crowd. Audience member
Haley Bingham states “The concert has been fun, a little crazy, but it's fun” . Shortly after
Rob49’s performance ended, Fredo Bang came on and performed a new song along with other
songs from his discography. DJ Charles and Money Man performed during Fredos set as well.
Fredo Bang closed out the concert and the show ended. This year’s homecoming concert was full
of energy and students look forward to see what next year’s homecoming concert has in store.
