TSU Available Resources: TSU S.H.A.P.E. Initiative (TSI)

Established in 2014, the TSU S.H.A.P.E. Initiative (TSI) is vital to Houston's health initiatives, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility. This community-based partnership, S.H.A.P.E. (Substance Use, Mental Health, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education), operates under the Department of Social Work. It offers free and confidential health screenings, comprehensive education, health resources, community referrals, and service linkage, both in-person and virtually. By fostering collaboration between the university and the community, S.H.A.P.E. enhances overall well-being and empowers individuals to take charge of their health, reinforcing the idea that we are all together.

Getting tested with TSU S.H.A.P.E. is a straightforward process. Visit their location on the third floor of Barbara Jordan Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, where they will guide you through the process. They offer free resources that you can take home, including STD tests, Plan B, women's condoms, and men's condoms. They ensured that every tiger stayed protected during sexual interactions. The free and confidential services include HIV and Hepatitis Screenings, Alcohol/Drug Counseling, Protocol-based counseling, case management services, and local health referrals. TSU S.H.A.P.E. is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All Texas Southern University students can only get tested with TSU S.H.A.P.E. once as college students. Still, S.H.A.P.E. lists other free testing clinics in the Houston area. Raising advocacy for sexual health and wellbeing, TSU S.H.A.P.E. is looking for student leaders and volunteers.

TSU S.H.A.P.E. is devoted to generating a safe environment for Houston residents and Texas Southern University tigers. The program's mission is “Maintaining a collective vision where quality-based and affirming sexual health services are available to all irrespective of one’s resource capacity.” It promotes holistic sexual health awareness, action, and empowerment. Tigers, check out TSU S.H.A.P.E. initiative for sexual health screenings and alcohol/drug counseling.
