TSU’s Office of Career Pathways and Partnerships Hosts Fall 2024 Career Fair

U.S. Secret Service recruiter indulges TSU student at the fall career fair about opportunities within the company

On Wednesday, September 25, the Texas Southern University Office of Career Pathways and Partnerships hosted the fall career fair inside the university’s Health and Physical Education (H&PE) Arena, with over 100 companies in attendance.

The fair held space for companies from various career backgrounds, allowing students to network and market themselves freely.

“I think the career fair was helpful because I saw many careers that I didn’t know I could join as a psychology major. I would like to see many more psychology careers here in the future,” said TSU student Gabrielle Harvey.

Law enforcement agencies, human resource companies, oil and gas, real estate, finance, and technology corporations were among the variety of options students could consider for building their professional presence.

TSU psychology major Maya Flowers passionately spoke about why she believes a sense of professionalism matters.

“Professional presence matters because leaving a great first impression is important,” said Flowers. “I believe having a professional presence will set up anyone for success in future professional settings.”

Students were dressed accordingly in business-professional attire, with resumés in hand, as they filled the H&PE Arena in search of their future.

“Just because you don’t see or think there’s nothing for you, put your foot in the door anyway,” said TSU social work major Jade Wilson. “Also, print out your resumé! I gave it out to people. It teaches you to put yourself out there. Even if you don’t see something for you, leap because you never know what’s on the other side.”

Preparation tools such as the ‘Tiger Networking Mixer,’ ‘The Job Hunt,’ and ‘Clout and Careers pre-career fair workshops were offered to students the week before the career fair. Free professional headshots were also available for students who attended the fair to encourage a more confident version of growing work professionals.

“Headshots create a strong first impression. It shows a level of commitment,” said biology student Livie Pamphile. “Your image is your brand.”

The annual event created an atmospheric buzz among students as final conversations were held between students and recruiters.

“The Texas Southern University Career Fair has been a great experience,” said Ray McChristian, a TSU kinesiology student. “It gave me more insight into my career field and what I want to do. I learned a lot about careers in general; being knowledgeable about every aspect of any career is important.”
